Ao Senso Telongjem Dimapur (ASTD), Eastern Nagaland People’s Union Dimapur (ENPUD), Western Chakhesang Hoho (WCH) and Niuland District GBs’ Association (NDGBA) have strongly condemned the abduction and assault of businessman and Head GB of Vikuho Village, Kiyeto Zhimomi, on January 19 by NSCN/GPRN (Khango-Vusshe).
ASTD: In a condemnation note, ASTD described Kiyeto Zhimomi as a respected leader, businessman and pillar of the local economy. ASTD said the heinous crime underscored growing lawlessness that threatens lives, livelihoods and peaceful coexistence. ASTD therefore demanded immediate apprehension of the perpetrators, swift prosecution, and enhanced security measures to prevent recurrence.
Terming the incident a direct assault on the rule of law, ASTD urged the State Government to prioritize citizen safety and break the cycle of impunity. ASTD also pledged solidarity and support to the victim and his family until justice is delivered.
ENPUD: Expressing shock, ENPUD termed the act “unacceptable in a civilized society” and asserted that such behaviour is intolerable in a state striving for peace and harmony.
The Union urged the public to unite against violence and abduction, and appealed to the Ceasefire Monitoring Board to strictly implement ceasefire ground rules. ENPUD further called upon law enforcement agencies to apprehend the culprits and deliver justice swiftly.
WCH: Western Chakhesang Hoho described the incident as “despicable, barbaric and lawless,” and extended full support to the Western Sumi Hoho on its 48-hour ultimatum to the NSCN-K (Khango–Hokato) group. WCH said such acts negate the values of Naga tradition and undermine the collective struggle for self-determination.
It lauded the timely intervention of the district administration, police and civil society organisations in rescuing the victim. WCH demanded an impartial investigation and swift justice, while urging all responsible groups to recommit to peace, respect and dialogue.
NDGBA: Niuland District GBs’ Association termed the assault and abduction of the Village Chief as a criminal act and a direct attack on the dignity and safety of traditional institutions.
Declaring zero tolerance for violence against GBs, NDGBA expressed full support to the ultimatum issued by Western Sumi Hoho and allied organisations.
It lauded the coordinated efforts of civil society groups in protecting village leaders and warned that any continued intimidation or targeting of GBs would be met with strong collective opposition and democratic resistance.
The association urged authorities to take serious cognizance of the incident to uphold peace, rule of law and respect for traditional institutions.
