Nagaland: Road Safety awareness drive at Shamator

DIMAPUR

In commemoration of National Road Safety Month, the District Road Safety Committee, Shamator, led by EAC Mekato J. Aye, organised a Road Safety Awareness and Free Helmet Distribution Programme in collaboration with ARTO Tuensang and the Police Department, Shamator on January 23.
According to DIPR report, the campaign held under the theme “Let the New Year begin with Road Safety, Kindness and Responsibility”, was conducted as a street-level awareness drive, enabling direct interaction with drivers, riders and the general public.
Free helmets were distributed to encourage the use of protective gear among two-wheeler riders, while Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials were handed out to spread awareness on traffic rules and safe road practices.
Banners and flex displays were installed at key locations in Shamator, and a sensitisation drive was carried out to educate road users on the importance of safety kits and responsible road behaviour.
Addressing the participants, EAC Mekato stressed that with improving road infrastructure and a growing population in Shamator town, road safety has become a priority. He assured that such awareness programmes would be conducted regularly and not treated as a one-time initiative. The programme aimed to instil a culture of safety, responsibility and cooperation among all road users in the district.
