Nagaland: 1 sentenced to four years RI for culpable homicide

DIMAPUR

The Court of Mevizolu T. Therieh, Principal District & Sessions Judge, Kohima, has convicted Raju Rao (39) under Section 304 Part II of the Indian Penal Code for culpable homicide of Ninaju Raj Bangshi (37) at Jotsoma Village in 2021. As per the order dated January 23, 2026, the convict has been sentenced to four years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs. 5,000. In default of payment, he will undergo one year of simple imprisonment. The case was investigated by UBSI Tsalamo Odyou of Sechu Zubza Police Station, Kohima. During the trial, six prosecution witnesses were examined, and the State, represented by Special Public Prosecutor L. Sashimongla Jamir, successfully established the guilt of the accused beyond reasonable doubt. Additional Public Prosecutor Abraham stated that the conviction was the result of coordinated efforts between the police, prosecution, and witnesses, and thanked the investigating agency for their effective work.
