Pheshu Students’ Union (PSU) celebrated its Silver Jubilee Memorial with a football tournament held under the theme “United in Silver Triumph.” The event marked 25 years of the union’s journey, highlighting its commitment to youth engagement, sportsmanship and community building.
In the final match, Kingniu Students emerged champions after defeating Pheshu United 3–0.
The closing and valedictory programme was graced by Roko Angami, Officer on Special Duty (Sports), Youth Resources and Sports (YRS), and former international footballer, as the valedictory guest.
In his address, Roko Angami said that the occasion was not merely about a football match but a celebration of a legacy built over 25 years, characterised by passion, perseverance and memorable moments associated with the PSU Silver Jubilee Memorial Football Tournament 2026. He expressed hope that the tournament would mark a new beginning for football in the region.
He emphasised the importance of discipline, sportsmanship and teamwork, urging players to uphold these values not only during the tournament but throughout their sporting careers. He encouraged young footballers to dream big, remain committed, and carry forward the legacy by striving to become future champions.
Calling on players to respect their opponents and honour the game, Roko Angami said that football had the power to build bridges rather than barriers. He reminded the participants that success was rooted in hard work both on and off the field, stressing that there was no substitute for dedication, patience and extra effort, especially in the face of challenges.
Describing football as more than just a sport, he said it was a lesson in life that taught resilience, humility in victory and grace in defeat. He added that such tournaments played a vital role in fostering a stronger and more vibrant community.
He concluded by urging teams to play hard, play fair and enjoy the game, while showcasing unity and passion through sport. He expressed hope that the tournament would leave behind lasting memories for years to come and reinforce the enduring spirit of football and the Silver Jubilee legacy of the Pheshu Students’ Union.
