Space Kidz India launches Nagaland Chapter of ‘Mission ShakthiSAT’

DIMAPUR

In a landmark development for India’s space education journey, Space Kidz India, a globally recognised organisation with over 29 satellite missions, formally launched the Nagaland Chapter of Mission ShakthiSAT – Peace & Power at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), Kohima, on January 24.
The launch marks the first time India’s Northeast has entered the national space pipeline.
Mission ShakthiSAT, conceptualised and led by Space Kidz India, is a global space education and satellite mission designed to place two student-built satellites—one into Low Earth Orbit (LEO) and another on a lunar trajectory—making it one of the most ambitious student-driven initiatives worldwide. The mission integrates structured STEM education, satellite systems engineering, leadership training and global collaboration, ensuring participation of students from every region of India.
The inauguration programme, organised by Avanti Fellows with Space Kidz India spearheading outreach and execution, featured a Knowledge Sharing and Exploration Session. Nagaland students selected for Mission ShakthiSAT were honoured during the event, becoming part of a global cohort contributing directly to satellite development and space research.
Haashika from Space Kidz India formally inaugurated the chapter, engaging with students, educators and stakeholders on the mission’s vision and national significance.
Guest of honour Deenbandhu Panda, Government of Nagaland, emphasised the importance of integrating Northeast students into India’s strategic science and technology ecosystem, stating that space education must be inclusive, aspirational and nationally integrated.
Distinguished dignitaries present included Meselhoulie Rame, chairman, P Khel Village council; Khriesaneikuo Kire, president, KVSU local body; Kelhouravi Rutsa, president, PSU local body; and Mahesh Prasad Shivhare, principal, JNV Kohima.
Wing Commander Jaya Tare (Retd.), Indian Ambassador – Mission ShakthiSAT and CEO, NewRizon Space, presented the mission roadmap and national vision, highlighting how ShakthiSAT creates a direct pipeline from classrooms in regions like Nagaland to India’s national and international space missions through mentorship, systems thinking and hands-on satellite integration.
The initiative is supported by leading national institutions including NewRizon Space, NITI Aayog, Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) and G20 India, reflecting strong alignment with India’s innovation, youth and science policy goals.
The inauguration of the Nagaland Chapter signifies a decisive shift—from access-based participation to active contribution—ensuring that students from the Northeast are not mere observers, but builders of India’s space future.
