The 77th Republic Day was celebrated with grandeur at DDSC Stadium, Dimapur, with Rural Development and SIRD minister Metsubo Jamir as guest of honour. The minister unfurled the National Flag and received the salute during an impressive march-past by police, paramilitary forces, NCC, and school contingents.
In his address, Jamir paid tribute to India’s founding fathers for their sacrifices that secured independence and established the Republic. He urged citizens to reaffirm their commitment to constitutional values of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity. Highlighting Nagaland’s journey since becoming the 16th State of the Union in 1963, he noted that the state has progressed alongside others in the collective march of development.
Acknowledging disparities in Eastern Nagaland, Jamir reaffirmed the government’s commitment to addressing grievances, including progress on the demand for a Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority (FNTA) .
He highlighted MGNREGA’s achievements in 2025-26, generating over 88 lakh person-days of employment for 2.64 lakh households. GIS-based village plans are being prepared for holistic development, while training under Revamped-RGSA is strengthening traditional local bodies.
The programme featured patriotic songs by St. Mary Higher Secondary School and cultural dances by Kachari and Sumi troupes. Parade contingents were reviewed by Deputy Commissioner of Police Khrusa Kheyo, with Manas Utpal as parade commander and Lanutemsu as second-in-command. District awards were conferred on individuals and organisations, including SDRF Dimapur, Vizokholie Meyase, WPC Koralina, Temsuwapang Longchar, Mempho Phom, WATSAN Aoyimti Village, Dimapur Gurudwara Sahib, and social worker Chandu Kumar Agarwal.
