Nagaland joined the rest of the nation in celebrating the 77th Republic Day with patriotic fervour and community spirit, as institutions, organisations and campuses across the state held diverse programmes to honour the occasion.
At Lok Bhavan, Kohima, the National Flag was unfurled by Thavaseelan K, Commissioner & Secretary to the Governor of Nagaland. Officers and staff of Lok Bhavan, along with CPT, SB and AR personnel residing at the complex, attended the solemn ceremony which reflected reverence for the Constitution and the spirit of patriotism.
At Medziphema, ICAR-National Research Centre on Mithun commemorated the day by highlighting India’s democratic journey and economic strides. The institute showcased its mission in Mithun farming, with achievements including the registration of the first Mithun breed from Nagaland, regional outreach in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram and Manipur, 12 research publications, nine IPRs including a patent, six externally funded projects, and international collaboration with Bhutan. Leadership reaffirmed commitment to Article 51A duties, lauding staff for reaching over 7,700 stakeholders.
In Kohima, the Kohima Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI) celebrated with children with special needs at Cherry Blossoms Inclusive School, Lerie. The programme featured the National Anthem in sign language, choreography and dance performances. KCCI president Kezhazer Angami exhorted the gathering to uphold mutual respect and harmony, while members donated a computer printer to the school.
Also in Kohima, the Rotary Club celebrated with children of Cradle Ridge. Club president Rtn. Kevino Savino emphasized constitutional values and unity, while president-elect Rtn. Dr. Keneilhoulie Medom motivated the children to strive for excellence. Donations were presented by club members, and the children performed a group song before hosting the Rotarians for lunch. Director of Cradle Ridge, Prof. Dr. Rosemary Dzuvichu, representing NMA, expressed appreciation for the Rotary’s consistent support.
At Sainik School Punglwa, the 77th Republic Day was marked with ceremonial grandeur. Principal Col (Dr) Smita Misra unfurled the National Flag and inspected the parade contingents. Cadets presented an impressive drill display, while two cadets—Cdt Cidibe Peter Mbung and Cdt Sahil—were felicitated for being recommended by the Service Selection Board (SSB) for entry into the National Defence Academy (NDA), Pune. A solemn passing out parade was also held for Class 12 cadets, attended by parents, staff and families.
In Dimapur, the Gorkha Youth Club Dimapur (GYCD) celebrated with enthusiasm. Advisor Roshan BK urged youth to remain united and contribute to national development, while NPF Minority Wing leader Anand Gurung recalled the sacrifices of freedom fighters. Special guest Bishnu Bhattacharjee, chairman of LMFN and president of NPF Minority Wing Central, stressed the importance of understanding the Constitution. The programme concluded with the national song “Vande Mataram.”
At Nagaland University, Vice-Chancellor Prof. J.K. Patnaik hoisted the National Flag at Lumami campus. In his address, he reflected on India’s rapid progress and emphasized the Constitution as a guiding light ensuring equality, rights and duties. He highlighted reforms under the National Education Policy (NEP) and lauded faculty and staff for strengthening academic and administrative ecosystems. The programme ended with a vote of thanks by PRO Peter Ki.
Meanwhile, 155 BN CRPF participated in the Republic Day Parade at Niuland Parade Ground, saluting the National Flag with zeal and attracting the attention of the public present.
