Nagaland: First Mokokchung Film Festival held

The first-ever Mokokchung Film Festival was successfully held at the Town Hall, Mokokchung on 25th January 2026. The landmark event was organized by the Mokokchung District Administration in collaboration with the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting and NFDC Cinemas of India.
In his welcome address, Assistant Commissioner of Mokokchung, Ajay Moktan, IAS, extended his gratitude to DC Mokokchung, Ajit Kumar Verma, IAS for his vision in conceptualizing the festival. Welcoming creators, storytellers, students, and CSOs, Moktan remarked, “Cinema is more than entertainment; it is a powerful medium that reflects society, preserves culture, and inspires change.”
The audience was also addressed by ADC Mokokchung, Atsungba Walling who emphasized the vital role of cinema in the era of globalization while calling for ethical storytelling.
Renowned actor, Bendang Meren Ao provided a detailed highlight of the festival’s objectives.
The program was chaired by EAC Mokokchung, KewimesinNriame, and invocation led by Teyalo Seb, Pastor of Tenyimia Church, Mokokchung.
Attendees were treated to a diverse range of performances, including comedy by Hobi Tsang, musical sets by Asungla Aodang, Lipokmeren, Bendang Meren Ao, and Easter Konyak, and a routine by the Mokokchung Dance Community.
A highlight of the event was the screening of the short film titled PLASTIC directed by Raj Kumar. The jury comprised of actors Bendang Meren Ao, S. Neangbah Konyak and YangerkumlaLemtur.
The following film, director and actors were declared as winners. Best Film: PLASTIC (Directed by Raj Kumar); Best Director: AnokPongen (Jeevan Ekta Kitap); Best Actor: LanusunepLongchar (Longrapong Sama); Best Actress: Tulumenla (The Real Identity From Above)
The inaugural festival concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Bungkhao Konyak, EAC (P), marking a significant milestone for the creative arts in the district.
