The Nagaland ISKA Team delivered an outstanding performance at the ISKA Open International Kickboxing Championship held at Ballygunge Arena, Kolkata, from January 23 to 25. Led by State Coach Israel G. Xuivi, the 11-member squad secured a total of 17 medals, including 1 gold, 7 silver, 9 bronze and one prestigious title belt.
The championship, which featured international officials and participants from countries such as the USA, Australia, Korea and Ethiopia, provided a competitive platform for fighters from across the globe. Nagaland’s contingent rose to the occasion, showcasing skill, determination and resilience against strong opposition.
Medal winners from Nagaland are Kulungshi Newmai – Champion (K1 Kickboxing Semi-Pro Title Belt, 52kg), selected to represent India at the upcoming World Championship in Spain. Atomika K. Kinimi – Bronze (Point Sparring 30-35kg), Bronze (Traditional Form); Arkali K. Kinimi – Bronze (Point Sparring 30-35kg), Silver (Traditional Form); Ajukuvu K. Kinimi – Silver (Point Sparring 15-20kg); Shihrazhio Aruo – Gold (Point Sparring 40-45kg), Bronze (Traditional Form); Puloto Chophy – Bronze (Traditional Form); Paul Zeliang – Silver (Traditional Form); Kivishe P. Swu – Silver (Point Sparring 50-55kg), Bronze (Traditional Form); Limachan Kendrick – Silver (Point Sparring 45-49kg), Bronze (Traditional Form); Tokupu Xuivi Zhimomi – Silver (K1 Light Kickboxing 65-70kg), Silver (Point Sparring 65-70kg), Bronze (Traditional Form); Ahuto Chophy – Bronze (K1 Semi-Pro Kickboxing 65-70kg).
The standout performance came from Kulungshi Newmai, who clinched the K1 Semi-Pro Title Belt in the 52kg category and earned selection to represent India at the World Championship in Spain later this year. Meanwhile, Shihrazhio Aruo secured Nagaland’s lone gold medal in Point Sparring (40-45kg), adding to the state’s tally with a bronze in Traditional Form.
Nagaland’s fighters demonstrated versatility across multiple categories, excelling in Point Sparring, K1 Kickboxing, and Traditional Form events. Their achievements underscored the growing strength of kickboxing in the state and its ability to compete at the international level.
In addition to the team’s success, State Coach Israel G. Xuivi was inducted as Vice President (Honorary) of ISKA India, marking a proud milestone for Nagaland. His leadership and guidance were instrumental in preparing the fighters for the championship, and his appointment reflects recognition of his contributions to the sport nationally.
With a blend of young and experienced fighters, the contingent’s success has brought pride to the region and set the stage for greater participation in global competitions.
