Angami Students’ Union (ASU) has issued a statement expressing concern over an incident involving alleged violation of taxi regulations and the entry of individuals without Inner Line Permits (ILP).
In a statement, ASU president Diezevisie Nakhro and vice president & convenor grievance cell Zhovito Rikha, its officials intercepted a taxi (NL01T-A 1163) on the night of January 25, while returning from official duties. The union alleged that the vehicle, displaying reckless driving behaviour, was carrying seven passengers, in violation of All Nagaland Taxi Association (ANTA) regulations, and that five of the passengers did not possess mandatory ILPs.
ASU identified the driver as MD Ali Hussain, 39, a resident of Midland Colony, and alleged that he was actively assisting the entry of illegal immigrants into the state. The union stated that it has barred the driver from operating any taxi within Angami jurisdiction with immediate effect and warned that any non-compliance would invite stern action, for which the individual would be held solely responsible.
While appreciating ANTA’s support, ASU urged the association to caution its drivers to ensure no loopholes remain for exploitation of the state’s security in the future. The union also called upon the state government to strengthen security at transit points and enforce stricter ILP checks.
ASU stressed the need for strict and precise monitoring of borders to prevent further entry of undocumented individuals.
It also appealed to the public to remain vigilant and refrain from providing shelter or assistance to illegal entrants. It urged citizens to promptly report any such instances to the appropriate authorities and called for a united, disciplined response in safeguarding the state’s future within the bounds of law and public responsibility.
