The Dimapur District Poultry Suppliers Union (DDPSU) has strongly condemned repeated incidents of abduction, extortion, and harassment targeting poultry suppliers, describing them as “organized crime and economic terrorism” against livelihoods.
In a press release, DDPSU president Khekishe Aye and general secretary Lashito Awomi reported that on January 29, around 3 a.m., two vehicles carrying suppliers were abducted from Dimapur’s Supermarket area. Victims were kidnapped, robbed, and terrorized by unidentified miscreants. DDPSU said their release was secured only through the union’s swift intervention, urging accountability and protection for citizens.
DDPSU has decried the vulnerability of suppliers, stressing that abductions in Dimapur’s Supermarket area are recurring and not isolated. The union warned that silence and inaction have emboldened criminals, fostering fear and crippling businesses while driving families toward economic ruin.
Issuing a “final and uncompromising warning,” DDPSU declared that abduction, extortion, and intimidation of poultry suppliers will no longer be tolerated, urging decisive measures to safeguard livelihoods and restore public confidence in law and order.
DDPSU has demanded urgent and decisive action from the district administration and law enforcement to arrest and prosecute those responsible for repeated abductions and extortion of poultry suppliers. Warning that delays or attempts to downplay the crimes would be seen as complicity, the union cautioned it may resort to democratic mass action to defend members. DDPSU also opposed attempts to form syndicates for poultry imports, vowing to resist monopolies that exploit local suppliers. Reaffirming its commitment to fair trade, the union urged authorities to restore law and order, stressing that safety, dignity, and livelihoods are non-negotiable.
