Merangkong Students’ Union (MKT) clinched the overall champion title at the 34th Langpangkong Students’ Conference (LKM) Sports Festival 2026, with all three of its teams reaching the finals. MKT secured the Men’s Football championship while finishing runners-up in both the Men’s and Women’s Volleyball events.
The festival, hosted by the Chuchuyimlang Village Council in collaboration with the Chuchuyimlang Students’ Union under the theme “Rekindling Legacy”, concluded on January 30 at the Langpangkong Tzükong Government High School ground, Chuchuyimlang. P.A. to Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, Alemtetba graced the closing ceremony as guest of honour.
In the football final, Merangkong Students’ Union defeated Chuchuyimlang Students’ Union (CKT) with a golden goal scored by Noklensunep (20) in the 10th minute. Despite several scoring opportunities, Chuchuyimlang failed to convert, while Merangkong held firm to secure the title. Both teams received cash prizes, citations and trophies.
Individual football awards were presented to: Best Goalkeeper: Moalemba (Chuchuyimlang); Best Defender: Meyinungsang (Mongsenyimti); Most Promising Player: Temsuba (Merangkong); Player of the Tournament: Noklensunep (Merangkong); Highest Goal Scorer: Noklensunep (Merangkong), Takotuba (Mongsenyimti), Arnokdang (Merangkong).
Earlier, Merangkong and Chuchuyimlang advanced to the final after defeating Longkong and Mongsenyimti respectively in the semi-finals. The second semi-final ended in a penalty shootout, with Chuchuyimlang edging past Mongsenyimti in sudden death.
In the Women’s Volleyball final, Salulamang dominated Merangkong in straight sets (25–16, 25–16, 25–18) to claim the championship.
In the Men’s Volleyball final, Changtongya overcame Merangkong, winning 25–12, 25–19 and 25–20 to secure the title.
Individual men’s volleyball awards were presented to: Sarilepzung (Changtongya) – Best Setter; Nungsangyapang (Changtongya) – Best Spiker; Limamoa (Merangkong) – Player of the Tournament.
In the women’s volleyball, Sungjemmtola (Salulamang) – Best Setter; Sashirenla (Salulamang) – Best Spiker; Toshisangla (Merangkong) – Player of the Tournament.
Addressing the gathering, Alemtetba lauded the citizens of Langpangkong for their support and encouraged students to uphold discipline in sports and life. He emphasized that lifestyle and discipline are key to success and urged participants to contribute positively to the Ao community and Naga society.
The festival also featured exhortations by Information and Publicity Secretary of NSF and former general secretary of LKM, Temjentoshi. Convenor of the Local Planning Committee, Rongsenlemba and convenor of the LKM Sports Festival Planning cum Technical Committee, Imkongtemsu Jamir, delivered the vote of thanks.
