A total of 282 recruits, including 36 Mahila recruits, were formally inducted into the Assam Rifles during an attestation parade held at the Assam Rifles Training Centre & School (ARTC&S), Shokhuvi, on Saturday.
Major General Jai Singh Bainsla, reviewing officer of the parade, highlighted the Assam Rifles’ legacy as India’s oldest paramilitary force and its multifaceted role in safeguarding national security. He called upon the newly attested riflemen and riflewomen to serve the nation with sincerity and dedication, keep pace with emerging technologies, and rise to evolving security challenges as they joined their respective units in frontline duties.
Addressing the recruits, the RO noted that women have been inducted into all frontline roles since 2015. He praised their consistent performance not only in the North East and Jammu & Kashmir but also during United Nations missions abroad, and recalled the exemplary participation of women contingents in the Republic Day Parades of 2019 and 2023. He also highlighted the role of women personnel in instilling a sense of security among local women and children, contributing to the vision of a progressive and women-empowered nation.
The attestation parade marked the culmination of 44 weeks of rigorous training, covering battle craft, weapon handling, jungle lane shooting, and specialization in counter-insurgency operations. The ceremony also recognized recruits who excelled during training: Appu Chakma was awarded Overall Best Recruit (Best in Physical and Firing), T. Maloti Devi received Overall Second Best Recruit, and Bikash Manda was recognized as Best Drill Recruit.
Calling upon the recruits to serve the nation with sincerity and dedication, Bainsla urged them to keep pace with emerging technologies and evolving security challenges, and said that the newly passed-out Riflemen and Riflewomen would now join their respective units in frontline roles, continuing the proud tradition of the force. The parade was reviewed by reviewing officer, major general Jai Singh Bainsla, who highlighted Assam Rifles’ proud legacy as the country’s oldest paramilitary force and underscored its multifaceted role in safeguarding national security.
