Viswema Youth Organisation (VYO) has strongly condemned what it termed as the continued, irresponsible and unacceptable misuse of the name of Mt. Tempü by certain individuals, entities and media houses.
In a statement, VYO asserted that Mt. Tempü was not merely a geographical feature but a historically, culturally and traditionally established entity that has been recognised, documented and accepted by local communities, scholars and relevant authorities over generations. It stated that any distortion, misrepresentation or casual renaming- whether deliberate or due to negligence- amounted to a gross disregard of historical truth and local sentiments.
VYO expressed displeasure with a certain local news channel for referring to Mt. Tempü as Mt. Esü in a news broadcast dated January 29, 2026. VYO said that as a responsible media house, it was expected to exercise due diligence, factual verification and sensitivity toward indigenous and established nomenclature at all times.
According to VYO, the use of an incorrect name created public confusion, undermined historical accuracy and reflected poorly on journalistic ethics and credibility.
The organisation urged the concerned to immediately refrain from using the incorrect name in any form of publication or broadcast and to strictly adopt and consistently use the correct and historically accepted name, Mt. Tempü, in all future references.
