Food Safety Administration designated officer, Kezhangulie Yimchunger, has informed that as per Section 31 of the Food Safety & Standards Act, 2006 and Regulations 2.1.1 and 2.1.2 of the Food Safety and Standards (Licensing & Registration of Food Businesses) Regulations, 2011, all Food Business Operators (FBOs) are required to be registered or licensed under the Act and Regulations.
The directive applies to resorts, homestays, hotels, restaurants, messes, institutional/office canteens, mid-day meal kitchens, Anganwadi centres, manufacturing units, home-based FBOs, caterers, pharmacies selling food supplements, distributors, wholesalers/retailers of food items, and street food vendors, among others.
FBOs who have not obtained the required license or registration certificate are instructed to apply online through www.foscos.fssai.gov.in (foscos.fssai.gov.in in Bing) or approach the office of the Chief Medical Officer, Food Safety Section, Paramedical Colony, for assistance.
The administration has directed that the license/registration certificate must be obtained within 30 days from the date of publication of this information. Failure to comply will constitute an offence and punishable under Sections 58 and 63 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
