A free dental outreach camp was organised at Yikhum village on February 10, extending oral healthcare services to residents who otherwise face challenges in accessing treatment.
The initiative, conducted under the theme “Better Teeth, Better Health”, was led by Dr. Mhao Jungio, BDS, MDS (Specialist) and proprietor of Gums & Smile Dental Clinic, Wokha. The camp aimed to meet treatment needs while raising awareness on oral hygiene, particularly among the elderly, persons with disabilities, and those with limited mobility. Services provided included free registration, consultation, tooth restoration, extractions, and oral health awareness sessions. Beneficiaries ranged from four to eighty-seven years of age, reflecting the inclusive nature of the programme. Long-neglected oral conditions such as tooth decay and loosening of teeth were also attended to.
Medicines required for the camp were sponsored by Woben Medical Wholesale, keeping in mind the difficulties faced by interior villages in procuring essential supplies. Patients were further informed that they would be eligible for free registration and a 30 per cent discount on subsequent treatment at the clinic.
Dr. Jungio stated that this was the first dental outreach programme held at Yikhum village and informed that similar camps are planned in other villages around Wokha town, with the intention of making it an annual initiative.
Expressing gratitude, Zanbemo Kithan, pastor of Yikhum village, thanked the organiser and sponsor for bringing healthcare services to the community, noting its importance for residents facing age, disability, and financial constraints.
