The United Naga Council (UNC), All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM), and Naga Women’s Union, Manipur (NWUM) have expressed deep concern and anguish over the ongoing factional violence between NSCN (Yung Aung) and NSCN (Angmai-Mulatonu) in Eastern Nagalim.
In a joint appeal, UNC president Ng. Lorho, ANSAM president Th. Angteshang Maring, and NWUM president Ch. Priscilla Thiumai stated that the unfolding situation represents a serious moral, political and historical crisis for the Naga people. They said the Naga political struggle was conceived as a people-centred movement sustained by unity, collective sacrifice and moral legitimacy, drawing strength from generations who endured hardship in defence of Naga land, identity and political rights.
Stating that the collective conscience and struggle for Naga self-determination should not descend into internal warfare and fratricidal bloodshed, the organisations cautioned that such rivalry among Naga brethren could imperil the cherished dream and sacred cause of the Nagas.
They observed that history has shown factionalism to be one of the most destructive forces within the Naga political movement, weakening collective resolve, diluting political focus and rendering the movement vulnerable to adversarial forces. The present cycle of violence, they said, recalls a dark phase in the Naga struggle and accelerates the erosion of unity, credibility and moral authority.
The three bodies unequivocally called for an immediate cessation of all violence and hostilities, particularly between NSCN-YA and NSCN-AM, and urged both groups to give peace a chance through forgiveness and empathy. They further appealed to the factions to prioritise shared identity and a secure future over internal rivalry and assertions of supremacy.
Emphasising that essential unity and collective effort remain the only path forward, the organisations prayed for sanity and peace to prevail across the Naga homeland and reaffirmed their commitment to strive collectively for the historical and political rights of the Nagas, transcending all differences.
