The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), through the North Eastern Council (NEC) Secretariat, Shillong, has released the status report for January 2026 for Nagaland, highlighting fund releases and key developmental initiatives undertaken during the month, a DIPR report.
The 4th Batch of the Ashtalakshmi Darshan Youth Exchange Programme was inaugurated at National Institute of Technology (NIT), Nagaland on January 4. The programme brought together 19 students from Punjab and 20 from the Union Territory of Daman & Diu and Dadra & Nagar Haveli, along with two guides from each region. Registrar, NIT Nagaland, Dr Manoj E. Prabhakar, and executive engineer (Power), NEC, Ibanri J. Kharshiing, attended the inaugural ceremony. Kharshiing underlined that the initiative aimed to promote national integration by enabling youth to experience the rich cultural heritage, socio-economic practices and developmental perspectives of the North East.
During January, NEC released a total of Rs 81,50,78,461 across all Northeastern States and to various regional and other agencies, reflecting continued focus on infrastructure development, livelihood generation, cultural promotion, research and innovation. For Nagaland, NEC released Rs 5,71,73,750 under its schemes for projects including the Community Trade Link Centre (CLTC) at Jalukie, construction of Working Women Hostel at Kohima, capacity building and infrastructure development for off-road tourism, bamboo incense and toothpick manufacturing unit at Jalukie, and construction of classroom and 40-bedded boys’ hostel with furniture at Government Polytechnic Seithekema-C, Chümoukedima.
Under NESIDS (Roads), Rs 5.61 crore was released for construction of road from Jalukie (NH-129A) to New DC Complex Model Township, Peren, aimed at improving connectivity to administrative areas and benefitting around 18,000 people in five villages.
NEC also disbursed Rs 32,59,10,251 to central, regional and other agencies during the month. Major interventions included promotion of cane and bamboo production, tourism development, construction of schools, hostels and colleges, establishment of kiwi orchards, pig breeding units, tea tourism initiatives, herbal extraction units, bamboo primary centres and treatment plants, multipurpose halls and convention facilities, and setting up of North East Ashtalakshmi Haat and Experience Centre for market linkage of artisans and weavers.
