Nagaland: H&FW deptt directs optical shops, retail outlets

Drugs Control Administration, Directorate of Health and Family Welfare, has directed all optical shops, optical establishments and optical retail outlets operating within the jurisdiction of Nagaland state to apply for registration under the Medical Device Rules, 2017 on or before June 30, 2026.
In an order, Controlling & Licensing Authority Drugs Control Administration, L. Martemjen Longkumer, said that several optical shops in the state were operating without obtaining mandatory registration certificate as required under Rule-87A(2) of the Medical Device Rules-2017.
The department warned that failure to register within the stipulated time would attract penal action, including suspension of operations, seizure of medical devices, and other actions as provided under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 and the Medical Device Rules, 2017.

H&FW deptt. directs medicine dealers, retail pharmacies: In another order, Controlling & Licensing Authority Drugs Control Administration, L. Martemjen Longkumer, directed all licensed wholesale medicine dealers and retail pharmacies to get their firm/business establishment on-boarded into Online National Drugs Licensing System (ONDLS) portal on or before June 30, 2026. The department has warned that failure to register would adversely affect their business transaction effective from July 1, 2026 as far as procurement and sale of medicine was concerned.
Further, all retail pharmacies within the state of Nagaland have been hereby directed to strictly follow the guidelines: 1. all retail pharmacies having registered medical practitioner (RMP) for patient consultation in their premises to either get their firm registered as Clinic under Nagaland Healthcare Establishment Act 1997 and Rules 2022 or to stop such practice forthwith in order to avoid legal action from competent authority.

  1. All Registered Pharmacist engaged in the Retail Pharmacies are duty bound to supervise physically, dispensing of all medicines within their engaged firm, as declared in their notarized affidavit undertaking. Absenteeism will be considered as unethical and violation of the undertaking executed by themselves warranting strict legal action.
  2. All registered pharmacist are also directed to wear white coat/apron with name tag bearing their Council Registration Number while on duty for easy public identification.
