Rajesh Kumar Sethi, Congress leader and National Coordinator, AICC Minority Department, strongly condemns the BJP’s sustained and dangerous politics of hatred that is corroding India’s constitutional values and social harmony.
When Narendra Modi, occupying the highest constitutional office, publicly seeks to identify a community by their clothes, it legitimises prejudice, profiling, and suspicion against millions of Indian citizens. This was not a slip of the tongue; it was a deliberate political signal. That signal is now being aggressively echoed on the ground by BJP leaders in positions of power.
The latest and most alarming example is the conduct and statements associated with Himanta Biswa Sarma, a sitting Chief Minister of a state. Content and remarks attributed to him, which promote harassment, humiliation, and “no mercy” attitudes towards a particular community, represent a grave abuse of constitutional authority. A Chief Minister is duty-bound to protect all citizens — not to intimidate, stereotype, or dehumanise them.
These are not isolated incidents. They reflect a top-down BJP culture where hate is normalised, minorities are vilified, and constitutional morality is treated as an obstacle rather than a guiding principle. Deleting videos or offering evasive explanations after public outrage does not erase the damage done to social trust or public safety.
As National Coordinator of the AICC Minority Department, Rajesh Kumar Sethi states unequivocally:
- The BJP leadership, under Narendra Modi, has created an environment where communal profiling and hate speech are encouraged and rewarded.
- Identifying or targeting any community by clothes, language, occupation, or perceived identity is unconstitutional, immoral, and dangerous.
- The conduct of the Assam Chief Minister demands immediate and impartial scrutiny by constitutional authorities, including the Election Commission and law-enforcement agencies, for possible incitement and promotion of enmity.
- The BJP must stop shielding its leaders, accept moral responsibility, and issue a clear public apology to the nation — especially to minority communities who are living under fear and constant demonisation.
India’s strength lies in its pluralism, dignity, and equal citizenship. The country cannot be allowed to drift towards a politics where hatred becomes governance and discrimination becomes a daily instruction.
Rajesh Kumar Sethi appeals to all democratic forces, civil society, and conscientious citizens to raise their voice now. The Constitution must prevail over communal provocation.
