Angami Public Organization (APO) has expressed shock and strong condemnation over what it called “pre-planned organised attack” on the president and leaders of the Chakhroma Public Organisation (CPO) by citizens of Maova village.
In a press release, APO president Thejao Vihienuo and general secretary Keneilesa Neikha said CPO leaders had gone to Maova village to meet their counterparts in a bid to find an amicable resolution to certain issues affecting peaceful co-existence between the two communities.
APO said the attack was “a direct challenge for physical confrontation”, which it described as “most uncalled for.” The apex Angami organisation expressed gratitude to CPO leadership for exercising restraint and preventing their youth from retaliating with violence or rampage.
APO said it was in possession of reports about changing attitude among some Kuki individuals in Angami territory following recent developments in the neighbourhood. APO said it was also observing growing influx of Kukis into Angami territory.
In light of the prevailing situation, the APO urged the Kukis—who were permitted to reside in Angami territory through the generosity and goodwill of their forefathers—to remain grateful and to refrain from any ambitions or designs that could disrupt the long-standing tradition of peaceful co-existence. APO expressed hope that better sense would prevail and that leaders from Maova village and Chakhroma Public Organisation would resolve the outstanding issues through dialogue without any further escalation of tensions.
