Nagaland: DoH&FW advisory on safe purchase, use of medicines

DIMAPUR, FEB 6 (NPN)

In the interest of public health safety and to ensure compliance with mandatory legal provisions, the drugs control administration under the Directorate of Health & Family Welfare (DoH&FW) has issued the advisory for all citizens on safe purchase and use of medicines.
Always obtain a cash memo or credit memo when purchasing medicines, as it serves as an important legal document for any future investigation or complaint.
Purchase medicines only from pharmacies holding a valid Drugs License. Verify the license’s validity through third-party verification on the ONDLS portal.
Buy medicines only from pharmacies where drugs are dispensed by a Registered Pharmacist, who should be in uniform (white coat/apron), wearing a name tag, and displaying their registration number.
In case of any Adverse Drug Reaction (ADR) or serious side effects, report immediately through the toll-free number: 1800 180 3024.
Report to the district drugs control administration unit under the chief medical officer’s office any medicines that cause side effects, reduced efficacy, or no effect at all, so that appropriate investigation and action can be initiated.
Always check the critical information on the medicine packaging before use: Brand name and generic name (e.g., “Panadol” [brand] / Paracetamol [generic]); manufacturer’s name and address; batch number; manufacturing date and expiry date; never use expired medicines and dosage strength.
Storage instructions as mentioned on the label or cover for optimal therapeutic effect.
A prescription from a Registered Medical Practitioner is a mandatory legal requirement for possessing drugs listed under Schedule H and H1 of the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules.
Never purchase or use such medicines without a valid prescription or consultation with a physician. Such medicines are dangerous for health if not used properly.
The advisory urged all citizens to strictly follow the guidelines and ensure the safe, legal, and effective use of medicines.
