Nagaland: Farmers urged to adopt scientific method

DIMAPUR

A joint Kisan Gosthi programme under ATMA for three blocks—Chizami, Pfutsero and Kikruma—was held at the Horticulture Research Farm (HRM), Pfutsero, Phek, on February 14, 2026.
According to DIPR report, the programme was aimed at strengthening farmer–scientist interaction, promoting scientific agricultural practices and creating awareness on value addition resources.
The event was graced by Dr. Neisatuo Mero MLA as guest of honour. In his address, Dr. Mero encouraged farmers to adopt scientific methods to make effective use of government programmes for agricultural development. He emphasized the importance of innovation, conservation of local resources and collaborative efforts between farmers and technical agencies for long-term sustainability and income enhancement.
The technical session featured Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Singh, Senior Scientist and Head, ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Phek, and David NG of the Spices Board of India. Singh highlighted scientific approaches to farming, while David spoke on the prospects of spice cultivation in the region, stressing quality improvement, organised production and market linkages as key to increasing farmers’ income.
Kelhouzakie Chalie, SDHO Pfutsero, outlined ongoing horticultural schemes, crop diversification strategies and development initiatives aimed at improving productivity and sustainability in the horticultural sector.
Zalekhu Lohe, Inspector at SDHO Pfutsero, spoke on pest and disease management and biological control methods.
The programme concluded with active participation of farmers from the three blocks under Phek district.
