Central Nagaland Tribes Council seeks justice for Covid warriors

DIMAPUR, FEB 17 (NPN):

Urges state govt to honour promise to regularize service

Central Nagaland Tribes Council (CNTC) has strongly criticised the state government for failing to honour its commitment to absorb doctors and paramedics who volunteered during the Covid-19 pandemic.
In a press release, CNTC president Khondao Ngully and general secretary Himato K Yeptho stated that human memories could be short, but the bravery of frontline healthcare workers during the pandemic should not be forgotten.
CNTC recalled that at a time when the world was shutting down, a few and paramedics responded to the emotional appeal of the state government to volunteer and serve the people amid the pandemic.
At that juncture, CNTC said the state government had assured that those who answered the call of duty would be absorbed into regular service. However, it stated that the state government, with the passage of time, appeared to have forgotten its promise. The council expressed deep regret that certain organisations, which “went incognito” during the height of the Covid crisis, were now resurfacing to oppose the rightful absorption of those Covid warriors.
Affirming its commitment to ensuring justice for the young Covid warriors, CNTC stressed that they deserved to be honoured for their selfless service.
The council also appealed to the state government and the general Naga public to stand by the commitment given to those frontline workers during a time of despair.
