Dimapur District Ladies Club (DDLC), in collaboration with the Department of Horticulture and the Investment and Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN), will organize the “Colours of Spring” Flower Show at Integrated Business Hub & Innovation Centre (IBHIC), Forest Colony, Dimapur, from February 19 to 21.
The three-day event will feature flower exhibitions, competitions, and seminars on horticulture practices. It will be graced by Kaisa Rio, chief patron of DDLC and lady wife of chief minister Nagaland.
Addressing a press conference at IDAN on Wednesday, DDLC president Nini Sekhose highlighted the club’s formation in 1998 and informed that this will be its 8th Flower Show, aimed at supporting floriculturists across the state. She said the objective was to provide a platform for passionate flower growers to sell their produce and reach more customers. Sekhose added that stalls this year have been provided free of cost, while prizes are sponsored by club members.
She clarified that DDLC members are not professional flower growers but flower lovers who wish to encourage and support those engaged in floriculture. She further noted that seminars will be conducted during the event, open to all free of charge, with resource persons and judges arranged by the commissioner and secretary, department of Horticulture, Akumla Chuba.
Sekhose acknowledged that organizing such events requires significant manpower and behind-the-scenes effort, which has affected consistency in the past.
She recalled that after the 7th Flower Show, the Floriculture Association was formed, and this year the association will also be joining the event.
Seminars will be held across the three days: on February 19, Naro Ki and Watila Longkumer will speak on floriculture; on February 20, Martin Joror, Horticulture Extension Assistant, will conduct a session on dragon fruit cultivation; and on February 21, Dr. Sosang Longkumer, director of Konger Agritech, will present on mushroom cultivation.
Competitions will be held in six categories—Bonsai, Orchids, Foliage, Perennials, Annuals, and Cacti & Succulents—with prizes of Rs. 10,000, Rs. 8,000, Rs. 5,000, and a consolation prize of Rs. 2,000.
Currently, 23 stalls and three food stalls have been registered. Exhibits will include flowers and plants, flower pots, garden accessories, jewellery, cut flowers, and artificial flowers. Entry to the flower show is free, and visitors are welcome to attend and enjoy the displays.
