District Handloom Expo ‘Tana Bana’ inaugurated at Doyapur

District Handloom Expo (DHE) – Tana Bana, showcasing and promoting handloom and handicraft products of Nagaland’s weavers and artisans, was inaugurated on Wednesday at Doyapur village ground.
Organized by the Weavers’ Service Centre, Dimapur, and sponsored by the Office of the Development Commissioner for Handloom under the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, the expo was formally inaugurated by Managing Director, Nagaland Handloom & Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd., Y. Lipongse Thongtsar. In his inaugural address, Thongtsar emphasized the importance of preserving Nagaland’s rich cultural heritage through traditional handloom products. He noted that such expos provide valuable opportunities for artisans to reach wider audiences, thereby fostering economic growth and self-reliance.
Sudipta Das, HPO Handicrafts Service Centre, Kohima, encouraged participants to remain dedicated and to actively take part in similar events in the future. Major Saddam Khan of 15 Battalion Assam Rifles, Doyapur, and Biju Langthasa, All Dimasa GB, Hosom Doyapur Village, congratulated the participants and expressed optimism that the exposure gained would generate greater business opportunities.
A total of 25 stalls from districts including Chümoukedima, Dimapur, Mokokchung, Mon and others are participating, with 20 stalls dedicated to handloom products and five to handicrafts.
The exhibition, open to the public with free entry, will continue till February 22. Organisers have invited residents to visit and support the state’s talented weavers and artisans.
