Food Safety Administration, Dimapur Zone, has initiated a multi-location campaign to bring local Food Business Operators (FBOs) and community groups into compliance with the Food Safety & Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
Beginning February 12 at Diphupar A and B, the administration has been conducting online licensing and registration camps through the FoSCoS portal. These camps provide on-the-spot assistance to FBOs, simplifying digital registration and ensuring that all food businesses operate under valid FSSAI licenses.
Officials reminded that carrying out any food business without an FSSAI license is a punishable offence under Section 63 of the Food Safety & Standards Act, 2006.
Alongside the registration drive, the Food Safety on Wheels team has been conducting awareness activities on food adulteration, hygiene, nutrition, and promoting the Eat Right India campaign. On February 16, a specialized awareness programme on safe food practices was held at Diphupar Village Council Hall. Designated Officer Pelerieno Kehie delivered the keynote address, stressing the mandatory requirement for Anganwadi Centres to be registered under FSSAI and highlighted proper labelling as a vital tool for public health.
Resource person Zuthungbemo, Food Technician, conducted a practical session covering scientific storage of dry rations, distribution hygiene, and the importance of reading nutrition labels. A “Sugar Board Chart” was displayed to demonstrate the high sugar content in processed foods, sparking discussions on the long-term ill effects of junk food.
Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials were distributed to attendees to support long-term implementation. The administration urged all FBOs—including paan shops, grocery stores, pharmacies, bakeries, vegetable vendors, restaurants, tea stalls, meat shops, canteens, caterers, homestays, resorts, and home-based manufacturers—to prepare their documents and take advantage of mobile registration camps to avoid penalties.
The Food Safety Administration, Dimapur Zone, announced that similar camps will soon be conducted in Chümoukedima, Dimapur, Niuland, Mon, and Peren districts.
