Chen Area Students’ Union (CASU) has served a five-day ultimatum on the engineer-in-chief, Public Works Department (Roads & Bridges), demanding immediate action on the prolonged neglect of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY)-II road connecting Aboi ADC headquarters to SDO Civil Chen Headquarters.
In a press statement, CASU vice president Locpa Konyak highlighted that the deplorable condition of road posed serious risks to public safety, daily commuters, and the overall development of the Chen Area.
Despite multiple appeals, official letters, and public notices submitted since July 2025, the union stated that there had been no meaningful response or visible progress from the department or the contractor.
CASU recalled that it had first submitted a formal letter on July 14, 2025, requesting the concerned office to conduct an on-site verification of PMGSY-II road project. The union said it had through press statement on July 19, 2025, highlighted the road’s poor and unsatisfactory condition.
However, CASU said the authorities did not treat the matter with the required seriousness.
It stated that subsequently on September 30, 2025, the Chen civil society organisations addressed an appeal letter directly to the contractor, urging the immediate commencement and acceleration of maintenance work before October 20, 2025.
CASU has, however, expressed regret that their repeated efforts yielded no concrete action or satisfactory improvement in the execution and upkeep of the road.
Citing the continued inaction and the grave implications for public welfare and safety, CASU has made a final appeal to the competent authority to conduct an official site verification/inspection of the PMGSY-II road at the earliest possible time and submit a detailed verification report to CASU on or before February 23, 2026.
The union warned that failure to initiate necessary action or provide a response within the stipulated timeframe would leave the Chen CSOs with no option but to resort to democratic steps in the larger interest of the public.
