Nagaland: Assam Rifles to vacate airport land by Feb-end

Staff ReporterDIMAPUR, FEB 19 (NPN):

Airports Authority of India (AAI) Dimapur Airport has confirmed that the Assam Rifles Training Centre and School (ARTC&S) would vacate approximately 18.9 acres of land required for the first phase of the airport’s expansion by the end of February or early March 2026.
Nagaland Post has been highlighting poor passenger facilities due to encroachment of airport land since the mid-90s. It may be mentioned that a total of 129 acres of land still remains to be acquired by AAI from ARTC&S as part of the broader expansion plan for Dimapur Airport. ARTC has been given 1950 acres of land at Shokhuvi and has to shift there as per agreement.
Speaking to Nagaland Post on Thursday, Dimapur Airport director Er. Moatemjen Pongen disclosed that an official letter was received from ARTC&S on February 12, 2026, outlining the process for handing over the land earmarked for Phase-I development.
Er. Pongen stated that the matter has been formally communicated to the Regional Headquarters (RHQ) in Guwahati, and the handover process was currently under review by the legal team for final takeover procedures. He said RHQ Guwahati has also apprised the Central Headquarters (CHQ) Delhi of the matter.
Expressing optimism about the timeline, the director indicated that the formal handover was expected to be completed by February 27, 2026, subject to the finalisation of all necessary legal formalities.
Further, Er. Pongen informed that he was maintaining regular coordination with the state government to facilitate a smooth and seamless transfer of the land.
