IUN conducts free health camp at Chümoukedima

International University, Nagaland organised a free and comprehensive health camp at the Chümoukedima Town Council Hall on Thursday, with the objective of promoting preventive healthcare and raising awareness about non-communicable diseases and common health issues.
The camp, conducted as part of the university’s social outreach initiative, witnessed active participation from a large number of beneficiaries from Chümoukedima and nearby areas. It was organised by the department of medical laboratory sciences, department of physiotherapy and department of naturopathy & yogic sciences of the University.
The programme was led by qualified medical practitioners including head of the department (i/c), Physiotherapy Dr. Varsha Tamang (PT); head of the department (i/c), Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences Dr. Jutika Bhuyan and assistant professor, Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences Sungjeminla Pongen, along with students of the respective departments.
Free services provided at the camp included general health screening, blood pressure monitoring, blood sugar testing, BMI assessment and basic consultation. The initiative aimed to promote awareness about healthy lifestyles and encourage individuals to assess and monitor their fitness levels.
Director of Vocational Studies, Dr. Zavise Rume addressed the gathering on the importance of natural remedies and traditional healing practices. He emphasised adopting holistic approaches to health by integrating natural therapies, balanced nutrition and positive lifestyle habits for long-term wellness.
Vice-Chancellor Dr. Dipak Kumar Shukla also spoke on the occasion, highlighting the vision and mission of the university. He elaborated on the various academic and professional programmes being offered for the academic year 2026–27 and encouraged students to avail quality higher education opportunities.
Colony Council Convenor, Ward 6, Chümoukedima, Zakietuo Shuya, expressed gratitude to the University for making healthcare services accessible free of cost and commended the initiative.
He remarked that health is the greatest wealth, yet many people often neglect their well-being. Highlighting the challenges faced by the community, he noted that several residents encounter barriers in accessing timely medical care and appreciated the university for organizing the programme.
Urging the public to make the most of the opportunity, he emphasised that early detection of diseases can save lives. He thanked the organizers for their dedication, meticulous planning and commitment to spreading health awareness, stating that such initiatives help bridge the medical gap within the community. He also encouraged the university to continue its noble mission of serving society and saving lives through similar outreach programmes in the future.
The University further informed that communities and villages interested in organising similar free health camps may contact the institution.
