DIMAPUR: The Improved Tool Kits Distribution Programme for cane and bamboo artisans was organised in Dimapur by the Nagaland State Cooperative Marketing & Consumers’ Federation Ltd. (MARCOFED) on February 20, 2026. The programme was sponsored by the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India.
The initiative seeks to strengthen the traditional cane and bamboo sector by enhancing artisans’ productivity, improving product quality and supporting sustainable livelihoods. Under the programme, improved tool kits were distributed to 50 artisans from Dimapur district.
Gracing the occasion as chief guest, Dr. M. Chuba Ao, chairman, MARCOFED, emphasised the importance of preserving traditional crafts while equipping artisans with modern tools to make their products more competitive in national and international markets. He appreciated the support extended by the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) in promoting the handicrafts sector in Nagaland.
Joining as guest of honour, State Awardee in the handicrafts sector, Nzano Ngullie, encouraged artisans to utilise the improved tool kits effectively and continue promoting Nagaland’s rich craft heritage.
Representing the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Sudipta Das, Handicrafts Promotion Officer, Handicrafts Service Centre, Kohima, addressed the gathering and highlighted various schemes of the Government of India aimed at skill upgradation, market linkage and infrastructure support for artisans.
The event witnessed participation from MARCOFED officials, representatives from the handicrafts department and local artisans. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, and all stakeholders for their continued support in strengthening the handicrafts sector in the region.
