JOSE-Festivporium 2026 begins with colour & cultural fervor

The 3rd JOSE-Festivporium 2026, organised by the university’s Students’ Council and powered by Mahendra’s, commenced with enthusiasm and vibrant colours at SJU Ground on Thursday. Held under the theme “One Festival, A Tapestry of Cultures,” the event brought together students, faculty members, and invited dignitaries in a celebration of unity in diversity.
Commissioner of police, Dimapur, Aotula T. Imchen, graced the programme as the chief guest. In her address, she urged students to cultivate persistence, perseverance, resilience, and hard work as guiding principles for success. Emphasizing that challenges serve as stepping stones to achievement, she encouraged the youth to remain determined and disciplined in their pursuits. She noted that strong character and consistent effort are vital for personal growth as well as nation-building.
Vice-chancellor Dr. D. Gnanadurai, in his exhortation, called upon students to utilise such platforms to foster mutual respect and understanding across cultures. Lovungi Ezung, proprietor and title sponsor, highlighted the importance of educational initiatives in empowering young minds. President of the Dimapur Urban Council Chairmen Federation, Zasivikho Zakiesato, lauded the institution for shaping responsible citizens through academic and cultural engagement.
The inaugural session featured a special appearance by Lungbui of the Department of Political Science and a drama presentation by the Department of History. General secretary of the Students’ Council, Alongdi Sangtam, presented a report detailing student activities and upcoming initiatives.
The programme was chaired by Department of Physics, assistant professor Jonglio N, while the invocation was delivered by campus manager Rev. Fr. Arockia Sezhian. Welcome addresses were given by dean of student affairs professor Charles Mhonthung and Students’ Council president Gobind Pradhan. Greetings were also conveyed by student leaders representing major community organisations.
Hosted by Hikivi Yepthomi and Amarpali Thapa, the event featured vibrant folk dances, traditional songs, tug-of-war contests, and top-spinning games, reflecting the festival’s rich cultural spirit. The programme concluded with a benediction by assistant cultural secretary Alen Awomi. The festivities will continue on February 21.
