Chen Area Students’ Union (CASU) has temporarily called off its proposed democratic agitation following a response from the concerned department to its five-day ultimatum and a subsequent site inspection of the Aboi–Civil road project under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).
In a letter issued on Tuesday, CASU vice president Locpa Konyak stated that the decision was taken in acknowledgment of the assurances provided and the prompt communication received from the responsible authority.
However, CASU expressed serious concern over the condition of the road, saying the blacktop surface has deteriorated severely in addition to the already damaged culverts.
It said numerous potholes were posing grave risks to commuters and causing immense public inconvenience.
Describing the Aboi–Civil road stretch as a vital lifeline for the people of Chen area, CASU emphasised that any further delay in restoration would not be acceptable.
As resolved during the Chen Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) meeting held on February 23, 2026, CASU has urged the responsible authority to commence repair or reconstruction of the damaged culverts, along with restoration of the blacktop potholes, on or before March 15, 2026, in the greater interest of public safety and welfare.
The union cautioned that failure to initiate the works within the stipulated timeframe would compel the Chen Civil Society Organisations to resume democratic steps as deemed necessary for the benefit of the general public.
Chen Area Students’ Union reiterated that the appeal has been made to uphold accountability and safeguard public interest, adding that immediate action was expected from the concerned office.
