Bangla Bhasha Prachar O Prasar Samiti launches class 10 Bengali textbook

Bangla Bhasha Prachar O Prasar Samiti, Dimapur, launched the Class 10 Bengali textbook Sahitya Parikrama, under the Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE), at the Pranab Jubilee Auditorium, Pranab Vidyapith Higher Secondary School (PVHSS), Dimapur. The event was attended by Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur, as the chief guest.
In his address, Dr. Chang congratulated the Samiti and the team behind the textbook, expressing hope that it would enlighten the younger generation of the Bengali community about their language. He observed that the use of native languages is gradually diminishing, with many students favoring English and Nagamese over their mother tongue.
Chairman of the Samiti and Principal of PVHSS, Manoj Bhattacharjee termed the launch a historical and emotional moment, noting that the NBSE entrusted the Samiti with publishing the textbook. He called it a bridge connecting language with identity, culture with education, and aspirations with opportunity, and acknowledged academic contributors and Sandeep Das for the cover design.
President of Dimapur Bengali Samaj, KK Paul expressed concern over students’ declining interest in studying Bengali, noting that children often rely on English-script lyrics for Bengali songs. Swami Chinmayananda, chairman of Bharat Sevashram Sangha, Dimapur and Karbi-Anglong, emphasized the importance of learning Bengali to avoid communication gaps, quoting poet Michael Madhusudan Dutta. The textbook has been compiled and edited by headmaster of Dimapur Railway High School Swagatam Ray, along with Sarmistha Mukherjee, Rajkumar Ghosh, Swati Chakraborty, and Dilip Das.
