The State Convention of the Nagaland National Pension System Government Service Employees Forum (NNPSGSEF) concluded on Saturday at the State Academy Hall, Kohima, with wide participation from members and representatives of various departments and associations across the State.
The programme was graced by Achuytananda Hazarika, convener of the North East Government Employees Welfare Federation (NEGEWF), as special attendee. Messages of solidarity were also extended by CANSSEA, NCSA, FONSESA and other service associations.
Advisors of NNPSGSEF exhorted members to remain disciplined, informed and resolute as they move forward collectively. The session culminated in the adoption of key resolutions led by NNPSGSEF president Avizo Nienu, reaffirming the Forum’s commitment to safeguarding the interests and future security of government employees under the National Pension System (NPS).
In his address, Avizo highlighted the long-standing grievances of families of deceased NPS employees, who were left struggling with meagre pensions of Rs. 1000–1500. He expressed gratitude to the Government of Nagaland for finally responding to the Forum’s appeals, noting the recent Finance Department Office Memorandum dated February 24, 2026, as a “milestone achievement” in granting relief.
Nienu, however, reiterated the Forum’s demand for scrapping NPS and restoring the Old Pension Scheme (OPS). He stressed that OPS is not merely an economic issue but a moral one, declaring: “A government that cannot care for its employees and retirees cannot claim to care for its nation.”
He criticized the silence of the government on the matter, contrasting it with its readiness to fund projects, festivals and constructions. “This silence is not empty—it is loaded with disrespect,” he said, highlighting that the sacrifices of employees over decades of service must not be disregarded. Calling for constructive dialogue, Nienu urged policymakers to explore sustainable models, including hybrid systems, but with urgency and empathy.
