East Dimapur Town Council (EDTC) has notified the public regarding the renaming of several roads under its jurisdiction. The initiative, announced on February 26, aims to improve clarity in road identification, enhance ease of navigation, and promote a stronger sense of local identity by aligning road names with prominent landmarks and geographical features.
According to EDTC, the changes are also expected to streamline postal and administrative processes and assist emergency services in reaching destinations more efficiently.
Proposed road name changes: – Church Road: NH29 to Toluvi Steel Bridge; Cana Road: NH29 to Taxes Office; Model Road: NH29 to Darogajan Gate; Bethany Road: NH29 to ISBT–Dhansiri River; Post Office Road: NH29 to Dhansiri River; Naharabari Middle Road: NH29 to Darogapathar Junction and Lake View Road: NH29 to Naharbari Pukhuri Area.
EDTC stated that the rationale behind the renaming exercise is to adopt more recognizable and straightforward names that reflect important local landmarks and geographical references.
This, it said, would make navigation more intuitive for residents, visitors, service providers, and the general public.
