Manipur chief minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Sunday said that his government was committed to infrastructure development for inclusive growth and economic security.
Addressing an event related to the inauguration of three infrastructure development projects at Moirangpurel, a fringe area of Imphal East district adjoining hill districts of Kangpokpi and Kamjong districts , Singh said “Infrastructure development is the foundation of progress.” “Through such initiatives, we reaffirm our commitment to inclusive growth, economic security, and a brighter future for every corner of Manipur. Together, we are building stronger connections and stronger communities,” he added. The chief minister inaugurated three projects – Itham Moirangpurel Bridge under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), Model Residential School under Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK) and Science and Arts Block of Moirangpurel Higher Secondary School under (Samagra Shiksha, Manipur) – at Moirangpurel.
He also flagged off ‘Upgradation of Roads from NH-202 at Lamlai to Thoubal Dam (1:18.50 km) at Napet Palli’. Referring to the newly constructed bridge, the chief minister said that a bridge is more than a physical structure – it is a lifeline that will connect communities, strengthen relationships, and open new opportunities for our people.
With improved connectivity, access to markets, healthcare services, and educational institutions will become easier and faster, directly benefiting farmers, students, entrepreneurs, and families alike, he said. He described the upgradation of the 18.50 km road stretch from NH-202 at Lamlai to Thoubal Dam as an important project not just about building roads but about building opportunities.
Singh said, “Infrastructure development remains at the heart of our vision for a stronger and self-reliant Manipur.” “Together, we are laying the foundation for progress, prosperity, and inclusive growth for every citizen,” he added. He said that improved connectivity will link the farmers and traders to larger markets, make travel safer and smoother for commuters, and ensure easier access to quality education and healthcare for the people.
He stated that inaugurating the Model Residential School under the PMJVK was a significant initiative that marked a major step towards expanding quality educational infrastructure in the region. The Model Residential School will enhance inclusive access to education, while the new Science & Arts block will strengthen academic opportunities for our students, empowering them with knowledge and skills for the future, he said.
“Access to quality and affordable education remains a cornerstone of our vision,” he said, adding that investing in the children today meant securing their future, preventing social exclusion and marginalisation, and paving the way for a developed Manipur and developed Bharat.
“Education is not merely about classrooms – it is about transforming lives and building a stronger, more prosperous society,” he asserted.
On the other hand, responding to a complaint, the chief minister directed the Imphal East DC to furnish the report of the internally displaced persons (IDPs) of Laikhong village who have not yet received the benefit for purchasing mattresses through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
The DC assured that after joint efforts with the state home department, the gap would be bridged.
Of the three projects inaugurated on Sunday, the Moirangpurel Higher Secondary School was built with an estimated cost of Rs 3,78,56,031 funded by Samagra Shiksha Manipur and implemented by EEW (Education Engineering Wing).
The Model Residential School was constructed under Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram funded by the Union ministry of minority affairs with the project cost of around Rs 25.62 crores.
The Itham Moirangpurel Bridge over Thoubal River at 2.10 km under Keirao Bitra Block was constructed with a sanctioned cost of around Rs. 645.84 lakh.
The upgradation of roads from NH-202 at Lamlai to Thoubal Dam (1:18.50 km) is a part of a road network which connects two main highways of the state – NH-202 (Imphal-Ukhrul road) and NH-102 (A) (Shangshak Tengnoupal Road.
The project for the upgradation of the said road is under the supervision of the Public Works Department. The construction is likely to be completed within a year.
