Free cataract surgery camp held at Zunheboto District Hospital

DIMAPUR:

A free cataract eye surgery camp was conducted at District Hospital, Zunheboto, from February 23 to 27, 2026, under the aegis of the National Programme for Control of Blindness and Visual Impairment (NPCB&VI), Directorate of Health & Family Welfare, Nagaland. The camp was led by State Programme Officer (NPCB&VI), Dr. E. Phyantsuthung.
During the five-day programme, a total of 345 patients attended the Eye OPD and were screened for various eye conditions. Free cataract surgeries were performed for eligible patients, with 70 successful cataract operations carried out. In addition, three minor eye surgeries were also performed during the camp.
Officials stated that the initiative was aimed at providing accessible eye care services to the public and reducing preventable blindness through timely intervention.
