State Newborn Resource Centre inaugurated

Dr. Mereninla Senlem, principal director, Health & Family Welfare, inaugurated the State Newborn Resource Centre (SNRC) at Naga Hospital, Kohima, on February 27, 2026.
Marking a historic milestone in the State’s commitment to safeguarding newborn lives, the SNRC has been established as a Centre of Excellence dedicated to advancing neonatal health services. The facility will serve as the apex centre for neonatal care in Nagaland, integrating upgraded Special Newborn Care Units (SNCUs) and advanced clinical infrastructure.
Officials informed that the independent SNRC facility, separate from the main Intensive Care Unit, will significantly enhance infection control measures and improve survival outcomes for vulnerable newborns. The primary objective of the centre is to reduce infant mortality and eliminate preventable neonatal deaths.
The SNRC will function as a model for all SNCUs and Newborn Stabilization Units (NBSUs) across districts, supporting capacity building of healthcare professionals, structured mentoring through a hub-and-spoke model, Facility-Based Newborn Care (FBNC) training programmes, and standardization of quality newborn care services across the State.
Meanwhile, the State government acknowledged the generous support of Toyota Kirloskar, which contributed critical biomedical equipment to strengthen neonatal services.
