The Tribal Resilience Initiative for Building Environmentally Sustainable Livelihoods (TRIBES) Project titled “Enhancing Farm Productivity through Integrated Fishery and Promoting Aromatic and Medicinal Plants for Sustainable Livelihood in Tuli, Mokokchung” was inaugurated at Kangtsung Village. The project was supported by NABARD and implemented by Community Educational Centre Society (CECS).
The medicinal and aromatic plants initiative under the project is the first of its kind in Nagaland to be funded by NABARD. Envisioned as a futuristic intervention, it aims to provide sustainable and long-term income for rural farming households through scientific cultivation, value addition and organized marketing.
Speaking at the programme, NABARD Regional Office Dimapur deputy general manager, O.P. Mounglang, said that while NABARD cannot be present in every village, it partners with dedicated NGOs like CECS to reach the remotest corners of rural areas. He lauded CECS for taking up this pioneering project at Kangtsung Village.
Mounglang informed that a Farmers Producer Organization (FPO) would be formed to promote collective marketing and secure remunerative returns for farmers. He added that the District Development Manager (DDM) would closely monitor and assist the project team, while training and capacity-building programmes would be provided to ensure effective implementation.
Encouraging farmers to embrace the project wholeheartedly, he urged them to think beyond short-term gains and work towards sustainable income for the future. He also expressed gratitude to the farmers for their participation.
On behalf of the beneficiaries, a farmer conveyed appreciation to NABARD and CECS for bringing the opportunity to the village and assured that the community would work hard to make the initiative successful.
