The Hindu community in Dimapur celebrated Holi, the festival of colours, with enthusiasm and a focus on harmony and environmental responsibility on Wednesday.
Streets and venues across the town came alive as people of all ages smeared vibrant colours, exchanged greetings of “Holi Hai,” and danced to festive music. Families, youth and elders joined the celebrations, reflecting a strong sense of community spirit.
Participants said Holi festival symbolised hope, peace and unity across diverse backgrounds. “Though we celebrate with many colours, we are one as a community,” a reveller said.
Organisers stated that the event aimed to foster stronger bonds among communities through shared joy and mutual respect.
Several locations introduced eco-friendly initiatives. Activities such as “Ladoo Mar Holi” and “Flower Holi” replaced conventional colour play at some gatherings.
Organisers maintained that only organic, chemical-free colours and natural flowers were used, in view of environmental concerns.
Some groups also used the occasion to organise collections and support drives for financially disadvantaged girls.
In view of safety concerns, particularly for women, venues were partitioned to create dedicated spaces for female participants. Security personnel were deployed, and organisers warned against intoxication or any form of misconduct.
To ensure cleanliness, members of organising committees remained at the venues until the areas were cleared of litter.
Organisers expressed satisfaction over the public participation and conveyed hope that inclusive celebrations would continue in the coming years.
