SHARINGAIN, DR. S.C. JAMIR CALL FOR UNITY, VISION AND PROACTIVE DEVELOPMENT
Tir Yim village under Chumoukedima district celebrated its 25th anniversary Wednesday at the community-cum-multi-purpose hall with a call for unity, vision and proactive development.
Gracing the occasion as special guest, NLA Speaker Sharingain Longkumer urged villagers to honour the pioneers whose foresight laid the foundation of the village. He reminded that jubilee celebrations were not only festive milestones but also moments of introspection and planning for the future.
Pointing out that the world was rapidly changing, Sharingain stressed that communities should not wait solely for government initiatives but take proactive steps toward progress. He encouraged villagers to envision their Golden Jubilee and begin working toward that goal now, remarking, “What is practical, we must pursue. What is not practical, we should discard.”
Highlighting the vision of “Viksit Nagaland,” he challenged the gathering to reflect on their role in achieving that goal and called for genuine unity among civil society organisations. He also emphasised the need for a comprehensive Master Plan for Tir Yim and assured assistance in initiating the process.
Delivering greetings, former chief minister and governor Dr. SC Jamir thanked the pioneers for their foresight and said jubilee celebrations were times to reflect on changes witnessed and assess the path ahead.
He observed that communities must adapt to modern realities rather than rely solely on traditional practices.
Lamenting the growing divisions within Naga society, Dr. Jamir observed that while Nagas were once united, today the State has 17 districts, each largely pursuing its own interests. He pointed out that whereas there was once only one Naga political group (NPG), there are now 34—“a creation of our own Nagas”—and added that Nagaland is further burdened with numerous civil society organisations.
Calling for deeper reflection on unity and common purpose, Dr. Jamir expressed displeasure over the oft-repeated tag “Land of Festivals,” asserting that no country or place earns recognition merely for its festivals but through hard work and achievement.
Concluding his address, Dr. Jamir urged the youth to embrace modern and advanced thinking to secure a stronger future for the community.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by Jubilee Planning Committee co-convener Repasosang, invocation was offered by DABA Deacon Tajungkoba Pongen, welcome address by Tir Yim chairman C Nuklu Jamir, blessing prayer by Pastor Noklensama, and brief history of the village by first president Imli Jamir.
Short speeches were delivered by Tatar, Village Council Ungma, Imkum Pongen; Ao Senso Telongjem Dimapur executive member T Benjong Longchar; Ungma Senso Telongjem Dimapur vice president Er K Alem Jamir. Jubilee resolution was read out by a resolution committee member, while vote of thanks was offered by convener T Nungshipokba Lkr.
The jubilee magazine was released by Soil and Water Conservation director L Chubaonen Longkumer, and a special song on Tir Yim was presented by the Village Council.
