Yose Chase, 81, from Viswema village, was conferred the Northeast Sanstha Award at the North East Conference 2026 held on March 1 at Malvankar Auditorium, Constitution Club, New Delhi.
The award was presented in recognition of his lifelong and selfless service toward the preservation of the indigenous Angami Naga (Sanatan) faith and culture, as well as his contributions to strengthening community resilience.
Born into a humble farming family, Chase upheld the values of hard work, discipline and cultural rootedness throughout his life. Alongside his career as a Government Primary School teacher, he emerged as a dedicated cultural guardian during a time when ancestral traditions and belief systems were facing serious decline.
As a central leader of Japfu Phiki Pfutsana Keseko Kehou and the founder of Japfu Phiki Pfutsana School, he mobilised community efforts to safeguard indigenous religious practices, revive traditional festivals and promote culturally grounded education for future generations.
His leadership helped strengthen community confidence, protect intangible heritage and promote unity through cultural self-reliance. Through his quiet yet profound service, he continues to embody pluralism, constitutional values and the enduring civilizational ethos of Bharat.
The Northeast Sanstha Award is a recognition presented to organisations, individuals or initiatives for their significant contributions toward the development and advancement of Northeast India.
