Garbage dumping to discontinue at existing site: DMC

DIMAPUR, MAR 6 (NPN)

Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) has announced that garbage dumping at its existing dumping site would discontinue with effect from March 30, owing to acute shortage of space and the site having reached its maximum permissible capacity.
DMC chief executive officer Thungchanbemo Tungoe stated that despite sustained efforts by DMC to manage solid waste disposal effectively, the current dumping site was no longer capable of accommodating additional waste. As a result, DMC has informed that no lessee (lease holder), permit holder, agency, commercial establishment, institution, contractor, or bulk waste generator would be permitted to dump garbage at the designated dumping site on or after March 30.
All concerned parties have been directed to strictly comply with the following instructions: All lessees (lease holders), permit holders, commercial establishments, institutions, contractors, and bulk waste generators must immediately make alternative arrangements for the proper segregation, collection, and disposal of solid waste in full compliance with the Solid Waste Management Rules 2026 and relevant municipal guidelines.
Dumping of garbage at any unauthorised locations within the jurisdiction of the DMC is strictly prohibited.
Any violation of the directions will attract strict penal action, including imposition of fines and possible cancellation of lease/permit, as provided under the applicable municipal laws, rules, and regulations.
DMC informed that it was actively exploring alternative and sustainable solutions for solid waste management.
It has sought cooperation of all stakeholders including permit holders, commercial entities, institutions, contractors, and the general public to ensure public health, environmental protection, and the overall cleanliness of the city.
