NSCW to hold district-wise ‘Mahila Jan Sunwai’

DIMAPUR

Nagaland State Commission for Women (NSCW), in collaboration with the National Commission for Women, will organise district-wise ‘Mahila Jan Sunwai’ (Public Hearings) across Nagaland from March 9 to 13, 2026, to commemorate International Women’s Day.
The initiative, part of a nationwide outreach programme, aims to provide women with a direct and accessible platform to voice grievances and seek institutional support. Complaints related to domestic violence, workplace harassment, maternity benefits, abandonment, trafficking and other forms of gender-based injustice will be heard and addressed during the hearings.
A key highlight of the programme is the emphasis on swift and time-bound grievance redressal. Dedicated benches comprising chairpersons and members of NSCW, district administration, District Legal Services Authority (DALSA), police authorities, legal experts and protection officers will be present to ensure immediate hearing of complaints, registration and escalation of serious cases, legal guidance and procedural assistance, along with follow-up mechanisms. Walk-in complaints will also be entertained during the hearings.
By taking grievance redressal directly to the districts, the initiative seeks to strengthen grassroots access to justice and ensure that women, particularly from rural areas, receive prompt institutional support without procedural delays. Organised as part of International Women’s Day observance, the ‘Mahila Jan Sunwai’ reflects the vision of moving beyond symbolic celebration towards tangible justice delivery and empowerment, underscoring the shared resolve of national and state bodies to create safer and more responsive ecosystems for women.
The hearings will be held at DC conference halls across districts: Tuensang, Zunheboto, Tseminyu and Wokha on March 9; Mokokchung and Niuland on March 10; Chümoukedima on March 11; Longleng and Peren on March 12; and Mon, Kohima and Dimapur on March 13.
