Committed to promote Naga Wrestling globally: WFI president

Sanjay Kumar Singh, president of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), who was the was the honoured guest, said the relationship between WFI and the Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA) has strengthened, leading to notable achievements.
He noted that with the efforts of chief minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio and the Nagaland Olympic Association, wrestling has been included in the Northeast Games. He further highlighted that Naga wrestling has now been incorporated into India’s national championship, opening participation to all states.
Assuring continued support, Singh said the All India Traditional Wrestling and Pankration Federation (AITWPF) is committed to promoting Naga wrestling both within India and internationally. He announced that AITWPF will represent India at the 2026 World Nomad Games and proposed including Naga wrestling as a demonstration sport, giving it a global platform. He expressed hope that the Government of Nagaland would encourage participation, noting it would be a valuable opportunity to present Naga culture to the world and even host international events in Kohima.
On the occasion, Singh also presented awards to two referees from Nagaland—Seyielhoukho Sechü and Sürhoneyi Soho—who have been recognised as international referees under the Alysh Wrestling Federation.
