SAMETI holds training on seed production technology

The State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI) organized a three day training program on ‘Seed Production Technology’ for ATMA functionaries from March 5 to 7.
A press release by director SAMETI & principal IETC, Medziphema, Nagaland, stated that the resource persons for the training program were ICAR, NER, Nagaland centre, Genetics and Plant Breeding, Scientist, Dr. Harendra Verma, KVK Dimapur, CTO, Genetics and Plant Breeding, Dr. Bendangla Imsong, KVK Kohima, ACTO (GPB), Dr. Martina Shitiri, SAS: NU, Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding, assistant professor, Dr. Merentoshi and SAS: NU, AICRP (KP), Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding, Dr. Chubatemsu Ozukum.
Topics covered during the training program included introduction to seed production, seed production technology in field crops, seed processing, seed certification and seed laws, seed production technology in pulses and oilseeds, advances in seed technology, seed quality parameters, seed storage and viability and seed production technology in a changing climate. Participants also undertook a field visit to ICAR Farm, NER, Nagaland Centre.
The valedictory program was chaired by SAMETI, deputy project director, Tiajungla Longchar, while the valedictory address was delivered by director SAMETI & Principal IETC, Medziphema, Bodevi Shuya. Feedback on the training program was given by all the participants. The training program concluded with awarding of certificates to the trainees.
Altogether, 25 ATMA functionaries attended the training program.The inaugural session was chaired by SAMETI, deputy project director, Tiajungla Longchar, while, in his inaugural speech, director SAMETI and principal IETC, Bodevi Shuya, highlighted the need of sustainable food production and seed preservation for future food security.
