Nagaland girls runners-up at ASMITA Pencak Silat

The Nagaland Pencak Silat Girls Team brought laurels to the state by securing the runners up champion title at the ASMITA Khelo India Pencak Silat League 2026 (East Zone), held on March 7 and 8, 2026 at Jharsuguda, Odisha.
Competing against top athletes from across the eastern region, the Nagaland contingent displayed remarkable skill, discipline and sportsmanship, clinching a total of 18 medals — 8 Gold, 2 Silver and 8 Bronze — to finish second overall in the prestigious league.
The two-day event witnessed participation from 12 states including Odisha, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, Assam, Nagaland, Manipur, Tripura, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram and Sikkim, with around 650 girl athletes competing across various age and weight categories. The large turnout reflected the growing popularity of Pencak Silat among women athletes in India.
Organized under the supervision of the Indian Pencak Silat Federation in association with the Odisha Pencak Silat Association, the league was supported by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports under the Khelo India initiative, aimed at promoting women’s participation in sports.
The Nagaland team’s impressive medal haul and runner-up finish mark a significant achievement for the state, underscoring the rising standard of Pencak Silat in Nagaland. The contingent was guided by coach Deep Kumar, with Kuhoshe Sumi and Retuwn Philio Anal serving as referees representing the Nagaland Pencak Silat Association.
