Kaisa calls for safeguarding culture on Women’s Day

The Angami Women Organisation (AWO) observed International Women’s Day with traditional and cultural activities at Khuochiezie under the theme “Footsteps of Forefathers: Benefits” on Tuesday.
Addressing the closing ceremony as the honoured guest, Kaisa Rio stated that Angami women had been exemplary in their daily lives and had played a vital role in preserving the community’s culture and way of life. She stressed the need to pass on these rich cultural values to future generations.
Kaisa also remarked that traditional Angami attire was beautiful and enhanced the dignity of the people wearing it. She further noted that traditional food was unique and delicious, adding that it was prepared using organic ingredients that were beneficial for health. She urged the community to preserve these traditions and ensure they were handed down to younger generations. She also expressed appreciation to AWO for organising the event and bringing people together.
During the programme, Myki Awards were presented in both individual and group categories. Winners in the individual category included Asang Chang, Moala Imsong, Piholi Swunetho, NokhovinuTetso, Y. Mhalo Lotha, Vikuonuo Sachü and Zakietsono Jamir.
In the group category, awards were conferred on VIZE Self Help Group (SHG), Kazon Logwa SHG and the Peren Town Women Welfare Organization.
In the best stall competition under the original and traditional culinary category, Southern Angami Women Organisation (SAWO) secured the first prize, followed by Northern Angami Women Organisation (NAWO).
In the modern and improvised culinary category, NAWO secured the first position while SAWO was placed in the second position.
In the fruit juice category, Western Angami Women Organisation (WAWO) won the first prize while SAWO secured the second prize. In the tea-making category, WAWO won the first prize and Chakhesang Women Organisation (CWO) secured the second prize.
The inaugural ceremony of the event was graced by minister for Women Resource Development and Horticulture Salhoutuonuo Kruse as the special guest.
The programme featured traditional culinary preparations, traditional weaving demonstrations and stalls selling traditional items. The event was compered by Vizosienuo Shüya while prayer was pronounced by UBC associate pastor Nino Phizo. Greetings were delivered by AWO president Neithono R. Sothu.
Special numbers were presented by Neila Thaprü and Licheü Khutso. Exhortations on rice pounding were delivered by Kedisenuo Keditsu (NAWO) and Visebiü Gwirie (WAWO), while exhortations on weaving were presented by Dievilhoutuonuo Nakro (CWO) and Kevisele Sophie (SAWO). The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by VilasenoZao.
