Nagaland Olympic & Paralympic Games 2026 postponed

DIMAPUR, MAR 12 (NPN):

Nagaland Olympic Association (NOA) has notified that the Nagaland Olympic & Paralympic Games 2026 scheduled to be held from April 7-18, 2026 have been postponed until further notice.
NOA had earlier announced that the games would be organized at Kohima, Chümoukedima and Dimapur during the mentioned period. However, following a review of the schedule and after consultations with affiliated sports associations and stakeholders, NOA said it decided to postpone the Games.
In a notice, NOA assistant secretary general, Neivikuolie Khatsu, stated that the decision was taken to ensure wider participation and the smooth conduct of the Games
Highlighting key reasons for the postponement, NOA said a large number of potential athletes were students, and the original dates overlapped with important examinations and academic schedules in various educational institutions.
It also said that the proposed dates conflicted with pre-existing sporting events and competition calendars organized by state sports associations and national sports federations, potentially limiting the availability of athletes, technical officials, and teams.
NOA said that postponement would now allow districts, associations, and athletes to better prepare and coordinate, promoting wider participation and upholding high standards of competition.
It said that revised dates for the Nagaland Olympic & Paralympic Games 2026 would be notified in due course after completing the necessary coordination with the concerned stakeholders.
The association has reaffirmed its strong commitment to advancing sports development in Nagaland.
NOA said it would continue creating valuable platforms for athletes and sports enthusiasts statewide to demonstrate their skills and strive for excellence.
All affiliated associations, districts, athletes and stakeholders have been requested to take note of the notification and extend their continued cooperation.
